Hi, I’m Wendee!
A photographer, writer, deep feeler, coffee lover, amateur foodie, animal lover, and spontaneous adventurer with a heart for storytelling and a carry-on half-packed at all times. My passion for adventure travel drives me to explore new places and capture their beauty through photography and travel.
I was born in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1985 and spent the early chapters of my life zig-zagging through different schools, big dreams, and even bigger feelings. I worked in hospitality for nearly two decades; bartending, connecting with people, and learning how to thrive in the kind of chaos only a Friday night bar shift can bring.
But in 2019, I started making changes. I let go of habits that weren’t serving me, reconnected with my health, and began asking myself what I really wanted out of life. Around that same time, I fell in love with travel — the kind that wakes you up, stretches your perspective, and makes you feel small in the best possible way. I also began to seek out budget travel tips to make my adventures more accessible.
My first international trip in 2012 was to Italy for a wedding. I was hooked. A few years later, I took a spontaneous trip through Europe with a longtime friend (who’s now my husband) and everything shifted. Since then, we’ve explored cities, coastlines, and cultural treasures together... often with very little lead time and just enough planning to stay grounded.
Seat Pants Fly was born from a phrase I used to say every time we booked a spontaneous trip: “We really do fly by the seat of our pants.” That is how most of our adventures begin — without a big countdown, just a cheap flight and a scramble to make it epic.
We plan the basics, such as where to stay and a few must-see spots, but we always leave room for the unexpected. That is where the best memories come from: wrong turns, random discoveries, and a little wandering.
We are not reckless, just flexible. We balance spontaneity with a shared Google calendar and a camera always in hand.
Right now, I’m at a meaningful crossroads: A blend of stability and exploration. I’ve lived enough life to have perspective, but I’m still evolving, learning, and collecting experiences worth sharing. Whether it’s travel, relationships, personal growth, or creative projects, I finally feel like I’m not just consuming inspiration… I’m ready to create and contribute. I’m not starting this blog because I have all the answers. I’m starting it because I’m in the thick of it; navigating real decisions, reflecting on what matters, and finding beauty (and humor) in the in-between moments. There’s a sense of clarity about my voice and what I care about, but also excitement for what’s still ahead. More practically, I’ve made space for this. I have the time and headspace now to pursue something that’s just mine—something slower than social media, more intentional, and open-ended. This blog isn’t a final product—it’s a snapshot of the process. And there’s no better time to start than exactly where I am.
